Oligospermia is the condition of male infertility with the low sperm count. In this condition fewer sperm cells are observed in the ejaculation than the normal in semen analysis. In this condition, less than 20 million spermatozoa per ml of ejaculate are noticed.

It is main cause of male infertility or sub fertility which leads to complete inability to produce pregnancy and reduced ability to produce pregnancy respectably.

Reasons for Oligospermia

It can be caused by various factors from which few are permanent and few are not such as

  • Obstruction of normal flow of sperm due to testicular trauma and vasectomy
  • Decrease in the sperm production
  • Stress
  • Smoking
  • Drug or alcohol consumption
  • Side effects of some medications
  • Exposure to some toxins
  • Lack of nutrition
  • Underweight
  • Sexually transmitted disease like Chlamydia or gonorrhea
  • Due to scar of surgery on male reproductive system

Symptoms of Oligospermia

The major symptoms of this condition are sub fertility or infertility. Other symptoms depends on the root cause of this problem for instance if this problem is occurred due to disease transmission then there can be burning with urination, testicular pain, thick discharge. Even one may have dilated veins in the scrotum and swelling in scrotum.

Diagnosis

For arresting the problem medical and sexual history of the pat8ient has been examined. Along with the general physical examination penis and testicles are also examined.

Actual diagnostic test include the semen analysis that examines ejaculate for the amount and quality of sperms. Even the lab tests can also be there for checking any infection if the problem is sexually transmitted so that type of infecting organism can be detected. Further tests are done to know about the hormonal disorder if there is any.

Treatment

Oligospermia treatment in Sofat infertility center includes some medications as per the root cause of problem and some instructions for the preventions as the prevention is best solution for this disorder.

Males are asked to prevent sexually transmitted disease by abstaining sexual activity or having protected sex, even diet must be improved , consumption of alcohol , drug addiction , smoking, exposure to toxin must be avoided.

Medications can include some fertility medicines, vitamin E and C, antioxidants and even hormone therapy.
