Diabetes and infertility connection in case of women

Not much close relation is there but there is specific directional correlation. However alone diabetes cannot keep you away from getting pregnant but can keep them from staying pregnant

The studies have shown that diabetic women cannot get pregnant month after month as higher level of glucose can prevent embryo from implanting in the uterus and even can cause miscarriages in early days. so it is cleared by the studies that diabetes can become problem for ongoing pregnancy.

Even if somehow implantation does occur then even higher level of glucose can create many problems such as

  • Increases the risk of birth defects due to the damage caused to embryonic cells
  • Increased chances of the mother’s infection due to larger baby
  • Increased risk of the gestational diabetes in mother can lead to health problems for both mother and baby
  • It can affect the level of hormones including estrogen, progesterone and testosterone that are essential for the fertility and pregnancy to occur

Diabetes and infertility connection in case of men

Men can also get affected from infertility issues caused by the diabetes. Higher level of the glucose can make it impossible for the semen to reach to the reproductive organ of the women and get back to the bladder for some retrograde ejaculation.

Even there can be some dangerous reproductive side effects due to the diabetes like

  • DNA damage to the sperm that can inhibit pregnancy
  • Men with higher level of glucose have the lower semen level
  • Even the nuclear DNA in men’s sperm cell become more more deletions in the mitochondrial DNA
