  • Lifestyle changes

To manage the problem of irregular periods which can be a symptom of PCOS you have to work certain lifestyle changes. If you are overweight you should lose weight. Sometimes even losing 5% can help you ovulate on time. The doctor advises limiting the use of sugar and carbohydrates in your diet so that insulin is balanced and to prevent inflammation. But keep in mind that one diet plan cannot help every patient. It is best that you should consult the doctor so that he can advise you what is best for you.

  • Birth control pills

It is very important to control the level of hormones so that the risk of endometrial cancer and the issue of the irregular period is corrected. For that, medicines that contain estrogen and progestin helps in decreasing the androgen production as well as regulate the estrogen. But make sure, you consult the doctor first before taking any medication.

  • Progestin Therapy

To regulate your periods take progestin for at least 14 days every one or 2 months. It won’t improve the androgen level as well as it won’t prevent the pregnancy.

  • Metformin

This medicine is mostly used to treat the issue of type 2 diabetes but it also helps to treat the issue of PCOS. Although this is not approved by the FDA. It helps in improving the insulin level as well as androgen level. Women who took this medicine noticed the ovulation after using it for a few months.

  • Clomid (Clomiphene)

This medication is also very helpful to solve the issue of ovulation. This oral medication is given to the patient in the first part of their menstrual cycle.
