Explain which method is better for IVF treatment: Fresh Vs. Frozen Embryo Transfer?

Fresh Vs. Frozen Embryo Transfer

Fresh embryo transfer

During this procedure fertilized eggs, embryos are transferred to the woman’s uterus after several days from retrieving the eggs. The eggs which are fertilized are either from women’s ovaries or from an egg donor. Additionally, the women are given fertility drug so that it stimulates the egg production in the ovaries. Due to this, more eggs will be produced and quality eggs can be retrieved from the uterus. The eggs which are retrieved are fertilized in the lab with the sperm which is either from your partner or it can sperm donor. During ovarian stimulation, estrogen level increases and progesterone is produced once the eggs are properly matured. The doctor keeps a check on your overall health so that embryo transfer can happen successfully.

Frozen Embryo Transfer

In this procedure, embryos which are transferred earlier are used. During the IVF cycle, the embryos may have been cryopreserved or they are frozen donor embryo. For some patients, these embryos are combined with fresh embryo transfer which is followed by an IVF cycle. Whereas in some cases, only frozen embryos are used in the IVF cycle and no fresh embryo is transferred. Especially the women who are undergoing the preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) must determine the embryo chromosome status. After this, only those embryo should be transfigured whose results are obtained. During the FET cycle, only the normal embryo is transferred. You should get IVF treatment in India. Embryo freezing cost in India is Rs. 25000 + 5000 (Every Year).

Which one to choose?

Many studies showed that women used the procedure of frozen embryo with IVF which is associated with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). In this case, the rate of live birth is very high as compared to fresh embryo transfer. Additionally, the women who opted frozen embryo transfer are at a lower risk of the ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome than who considered fresh embryo transfer. It is a problem in which ovaries get swollen and women also feel pain because of taking the hormone medications. With frozen embryo transfer, the women are at lower risk of preterm delivery

In some cases, the women choose the fresh embryo transfer is the first cycle of IVF and later on, they go for frozen embryo transfer. Moreover, fresh embryo transfer is also successful if you have not undergone any additional hormone treatment.

You must keep in mind that every embryo cannot survive the thawing and freezing process but with cryopreservation technique, this problem is also solved which eventually increases the embryos of high-quality. Age is also one of the factors which determine the success of these methods and her chances of pregnancy. The cost of the frozen embryo is low as compared to fresh embryo transfer but the frozen transfer has the additional cost of freezing and thawing.

Both of them results in live pregnancy. It is important that you consult the doctor and determine which option will be best for you.
